Dog-friendly restaurants, bars and cafés

These venues should see no problem in receiving your dog and having him or her by your side. I don’t think the restaurants will provide a meal for them, though; but at least the doggy doesn’t have to be alone waiting for you to come back. Dog Day

If it wasn’t enough, Fuengirola also has a yearly Dog Day, in either April or May. On this special day there is usually a walk (of dogs and their humans) from the Town Hall to the hills of the Sohail Castle, a fair with adoption places and dog exhibitions, among other surprises prepared for each year.

On the poster: Fuengirola’s 2022 Día del Perro (Dog Day). On 2023, it happened on April 23; the date for 2024 is not available yet.

What about cats?

Good question. Fuengirola advertises all these attractions specifically to dogs and but doesn’t say much about cat-friendly infrastructure. I think a good starting point would be to contact the ones that caught your eyes and ask if they also welcome cats in their venues; I’d expect them to welcome all furry best friends, but it is better to be sure.

But before you go…

Check the page of the Ministry of Agriculture of Spain, that gives all the information about requirements to travel with pets. In particular, whatch the video below, from that same institution:

Conclusion

Fuengirola did a great thing by providing so much for dog families and for organizing all that information. You can check their full pdf Bienvenidogs Fuengirola, in English, on the site Turismo Fuengirola, under Useful info / dog friendly guide, for even more options; the information for this post came primarily from that document. It is advisable to contact the providers before (or during) booking to check if there are special conditions and if the info provided is still updated.

It is recommended to inform the service provider – in case of accommodation, car rental or restaurants reservations – that a dog is part of the booking, as this may affect the prices. This way, nobody gets a surprise, and you don’t end up being charged more than you expected. One last important info: dogs in Spanish bark guau-guau, instead of woof, woof; knowing that should be enough for them to make friends around Fuengirola!
