Malaga School Calendar 2024/25

Malaga School Calendar

The Malaga School Calendar is prepared every year by the Junta de Andalucía, which released the calendar for the school year 2024/25 that you see below. It serves as a base for public, concertados and private schools in the Province of Malaga, for elementary, middle and special education.

Though each school eventually publishes their own calendar, they rarely differ from the base one, that you can find below. If you have kids in the school in any city or town in the province of Málaga, I suggest you bookmark this post for a quick reference during the school year. 😉

In the 2024/25 courses, school starts on September 10 for elementary school (kids aged 6 to 11, or grades 1 to 6) and on September 16 for middle school students (ages 12 to 18, for ESO, baccalaureate and vocational training). On September 20 it is the turn of the language school (EOI) and superior art training to resume.

Week-long vacations

There are three periods where you can count on week-long vacations (if not longer!) in Malaga. It is good to know them as soon as possible, in case you intend to find the prefect camp for the small ones, coordinate your own vacation time with their time-off or plan a trip. These are the weeks:

Christmas vacations: the weeks of Christmas and New Years Day combine to form a beautiful 17 days off, from December 21, 2024, to January 6, 2025 (Día de Reyes or Three Kings Day).

Semana Blanca: the last week of February is known as Semana Blanca in Malaga. It is the week that includes the Day of Andalusia (February 28), and a great time to travel, as it is not a holiday in most other places. In 2025, kids will be off school from February 22 to March 02.

Holy Week: in 2025, Holy Week will be in the middle of April, and kids will be out of school from April 12 to 20.

And let’s also add here an honorable mention to the 4 day-long weekend from December 6 to 9!

It is good to know that there are many camps available for each week-long vacation period. Sometimes even the school themselves offer it – it is worth checking with the school your kids attend if they intend to offer something -; sport centers are also a good place to find camps for these periods, or simply look on Google. In Benalmadena, I often see music, sports, dance, arts, foreign language and even computer and programing related camps being offered on those dates for different age groups.

Where to find the specific calendar for each school in Andalusia?

The Junta de Andalucía has a page to find the calendar of each school in Andalusia – be it public, concertado or private. Not all schools update their calendar at the same time, though, so there is a chance you’ll find the calendar of the previous year, still. If that’s what happens, give it a few more days and try again. In the meantime, you can count on the general calendar of the province shown above.

Conclusion

I wish you (and all of us!) a great school year, with just the right amount of homework, great grades, new friends, knowledge, wisdom and curiosity about the world that surrounds us all. Have fun!
