Malaga School Calendar 2025/26

Malaga School Calendar

The Malaga School Calendar is prepared every year by the Junta de Andalucía, which released the calendar for the school year 2025/26 that you see below. It serves as a base for public, concertados and private schools in the Province of Malaga, for elementary, middle and special education.

Though each school eventually publishes their own calendar, they rarely differ from the basic one. If you have kids in the school in any city or town in the province of Málaga, I suggest you bookmark this post for a quick reference during the school year. 😉

First day of School Year 2025/26

In the 2025/26 courses, school starts on September 10 for elementary school (kids aged 6 to 11, or grades 1 to 6) and on September 15 for middle school students (ages 12 to 18, for ESO, baccalaureate and vocational training). On September 22 it is the turn of the language school (EOI) and superior art training to resume.

Last day of School Year 2025/26

School will finish on June 22 for both elementary and middle school. But that is a Monday; in practice, the last day of classes is really Friday, June 19; on the 22nd I suppose just teachers and staff go to school.

We wrote the Book!

After listening to so many parents with the same doubts as we had before moving, we decided to make a book with all the information we got from schools, other parents, official sources and our own experience with both private and public schools in Spain. And then we went further, looking for all the support available for families with or without special needs, language and cultural adjustment tips and a lot of specific vocabulary. Get it now – it will save you a lot of time!

Week-long vacations in 2025/26

There are two periods when you can count on week-long vacations (if not longer!) in Malaga. It is good to know them as soon as possible, in case you intend to find the prefect camp for the small ones, coordinate your own vacation time with their time-off or plan a trip. These are the periods:

Christmas vacations: the weeks of Christmas and New Years Day combine to form a beautiful 17 days off, from December 22, 2025, to January 7, 2026 (right after the Día de Reyes or Three Kings Day).

Holy Week: in 2026, Holy Week will be from March 30th to April 5th – so, there is no school this week.

It is good to know that there are many camps available for each week-long vacation period. Sometimes even the school themselves offer it – it is worth checking with the school your kids attend if they intend to offer something -; sport centers are also a good place to find camps for these periods or simply look on Google. In Benalmadena, I often see music, sports, dance, arts, foreign languages and even computer and programing related camps being offered on those dates for different age groups.

What about the Semana Blanca?

I noticed that the Semana Blanca is not marked on the calendar. Usually, the last week of February is a week-off too. I actually believe that, as usual, there will be no classes this week, but the calendar does not mention it. That’s odd. It is advisable to check the specific calendar of your kid’s school (our next topic) or talk to your kid’s school staff to clarify this point, if you need to take time off or to plan for a camp.

Where to find the specific calendar for each school in Andalusia?

The Junta de Andalucía has a page to find the calendar of each school in Andalusia – be it public, concertado or private. Not all schools update their calendar at the same time, though, so there is a chance you’ll find the calendar of the previous year, still. If that’s what happens, give it a few more days and try again. In the meantime, you can count on the general calendar of the province shown above.

Conclusion

I wish you (and all of us!) a great school year, with just the right amount of homework, great grades, new friends, knowledge, wisdom and curiosity about the world that surrounds us all. Have fun!
