The Feria de Torremolinos, also known as Feria de San Miguel, is a yearly event in honor of San Miguel Archangel, patron of Torremolinos. The 2023 edition will happen from September 27 to October 1st, and the pre-feria started on September 15.
Normally, in this kind of traditional event, there is a full program released a week or so before the start of the festivities, but this Feria’s program was released only today, September 20. Here is the link for the full program. I believe it took them long because this Feria is super extra packed with events and attractions; I’m sure its going to be very special – after all, it is Torremolinos!

Romería de San Miguel 2023
September 24: The Romería de San Miguel will start at 09:00 at the Hermitage of San Miguel, with the blessing of the participants; at 9:30 there will be a concentration and at 10:00 there will be a mass. The procession will depart at 10:30 from the Avenida de los manantiales till los Pinares (full route in the program). From 16:30 on, Carlos Bravo, Callejón and Raya Real will play in the area around the hermitage.

Now, from the description, it may seem like an extremely formal event, but that would be far from the truth. A Romería could be translated as a procession, but in reality romerías are more like parades where people dress very colorful typical flamenco clothes, sing, dance and drink, while following the several different dray carts. Take a look at a short video of this parade to get a feeling of what is a romería:
One more, because we can’t get enough:
In my opinion, the parades are one of the funniest parts of any Feria. If you are around when one happens, don’t miss the opportunity to watch. You can sit by a pub on their way and watch and cheer from a comfortable shadow, or you can dress your best – remember to be colorful! – and go dance in the parade. Happiness guaranteed both ways. If you missed this opportunity, there is one more parade coming on September 29th, in this very same Feria! 😉
Día de los Callos
September 26: Torremolinos Business and Commerce Association (ACET) will offer the traditional food Los Callos.
Callos are the internal organs, such as the stomach or the guts, of an animal – usually young cows (ternera), pork or lamb. (Well, like sausages, maybe it would be better if we didn’t know what goes in there, right?) The Callos are prepared and served as a rich soup – see a recipe and a picture here!

Pregón is a speech, usually made by a known local, such as a writer or artist, about the city or the event that is starting. Every Feria has its pregonero, or orator, public speaker. This year’s pregonero will be actor, singer and dancer Manuel Bandera.
The show will be performed by the Ballet Esperanza Márquez, champion of Andalucía and Spain in the modality of Flamenco and Spanish Dance! Well worth watching!
21:30 – Lights on!
Encendido del alumbrado is when the lights of the fairgrounds are officially turned on for the fist time in the Feria. It is usually done either by the Mayor or one of them representatives.

Tents in the fairgrounds
Several associations will have their own tents (casetas) in the Feria de Torremolinos, and they each have their own programs. There will be lots of parties, some with rock, 70s or 80s themes; many shows with DJs or live groups, as well as dance presentations. Special highlight to the Caseta Peña Flamenca Amigos del Arte, which will have flamenco dance shows from 28 of September till October 1st, every night. Here is the program for all the casetas:
Safety measures
The Town Hall has added several measures to make the fair safe, inclusive, and accessible. Here are them:
– Identification bracelets: parents can get an identification bracelet at the Civil protection outpost. With this simple measure, if a kid gets lost, parents can be contacted easily.
– Parents can explain to their kids that the green line painted on the floor gets them to a safe area and should be used in case they get lost from their parents. This green line connects the kids tent to the police outpost.
– Nursery room: in the municipal auditorium there will be a room where mothers can breast feed their babies or extract milk in privacy.
– Kind space: in the municipal auditorium there will be a room where minors with functional diversity can relax, play, and disconnect.
– In the municipal auditorium there are ramps and spaces reserved for wheelchairs. These spaces can be reserved through the phone 952 37 95 53 (Cultural Delegation of the Town Hall)
– Accessible program: it will be possible to download the program in audio format, using QR code (Maybe the QR code printed on the Feria’s poster? I tried, and it is not there yet, but maybe will be soon!)
– There will be signalization in the fairgrounds, accessible through QR code, aiming to help people with vision impairment.
– Auditive protectors can be requested at the information point close to the Municipal auditorium.
-Violet and rainbow points are available. These initiatives aim to combat sexist and / or homophobic aggressions, particularly at festive events. The points are both safety places for the victims and spaces for denouncing aggressions.
Toremolinos Town Hall, thank you and congratulations! The program is beautiful and clear and the amount of events being offered is amazing! I’m sure it will be unforgettable. Let’s have a fantastic Feria de San Miguel in 2023!
