Feria de Torremolinos 2024 – Classic Cars and La Bardot

The Feria de Torremolinos, also known as Feria de San Miguel, is a yearly event in honor of San Miguel Archangel, patron of Torremolinos. The 2024 edition will happen from September 25 to 29, and the romeria (procession) of San Miguel will happen before, on the 22^nd.

Normally, in this kind of traditional event, there is a full program released weeks before the start of the festivities, but this Feria’s program has just been released today (September 19). The very late publication of the Feria program seems to be a tradition of Torremolinos, as last year the program was published after quite some events had already passed…

This year’s poster is a tribute to Brigitte Bardot, muse of Torremolinos and symbol of the city’s success. Bardot was one of the celebrities that made Torremolinos (and the rest of the Costa del Sol, by extension) famous around the world!

I’ve translated the program of the 2024 Feria de Torremolinos below, and added locations of several places mentioned the first time they appear, as well as pages of the original program, which you can access in full here. Friday, September 20: Ritmo a Caballo

Torremolinos’ Bullring (Plaza de Toros) will host the equestrian show ‘Ritmo a Caballo’, organized by the Club Hípico El Ranchito’, from 8pm onwards. Admission is free, but there are limited seats, so its advisable to arrive early. It is an unique opportunity to see a traditional show and for free!

Saturday, September 21: Vintage Cars exhibition and Feria Fest

The XXVIII Car Concentration ‘Amigos de los Clásicos’ will be held on Saturday 21st at Plaza Blas Infante. Classic and vintage cars will be on display for one hour – from 9:30 am to 10:30 am -, when they will depart towards the Recinto Ferial (fairgrounds). This event, that is in its 29th edition, is the definition of a classic; it is already part of Torremolinos history!

Later that same day, it will be the Auditorio Principe de Asturias that will host a party: it’s the Feria Fest, a live and musical experience full of energy on September 21. There are several bands confirmed, such as La La Love You, Karavana and Colectivo da Silva. Get your tickets on Fever.

Sunday, September 22: Romería de San Miguel 2024

On September 22 the traditional Romería de San Miguel will take the streets of Torremolinos:

09:00 am – the participants will be blessed, and then depart from the Ermita de San Miguel
09:30 am – Concentration of the delegation on the Avenida de Los Manantiales (close to Urbanización Los Palacios)
10:00 am – Mass in the Avenida de los Manantiales, close to the roundabout

10:30 am – Carriages depart from Avenida de Los Manantiales
Route: Avenida de Los Manantiales, Plaza Costa del Sol, Avenida Palma de Mallorca, Avenida Joan Miró, Calle Rafael Quintana Rosado, Carretera de Benalmádena, Cruce del Pozuelo towards Los Pinares.
04:030 pm – In the area around the Ermita San Miguel, the assistants will enjoy musical performances by Carlos Bravo, Callejón y Cantores de Híspalis.

From the description, it may seem like an extremely formal event, but that would be far from the truth. A Romería could be translated as a procession, but in reality romerías are more like parades where people dress in very colorful, typical flamenco clothes, sing, dance and drink, while following the several different dray carts. Take a look at a short video of this parade (taken in 2023) to get a feeling of what is a romería:

In my opinion, the parades are one of the funniest parts of any Feria. If you are around when one happens, don’t miss the opportunity to watch. You can sit by a pub on their way and watch and cheer from a comfortable shadow, or you can dress your best – remember to be colorful! – and go dance in the parade. Happiness is guaranteed both ways.

Monday, September 23: Pimentel Tower Exposition

This may not be a pre-feria event, but it’s worth of being here, because any fan of Torremolinos will love it! The exhibition ‘Torre de Pimentel’ is made up of 12 works whose protagonist is the tower, in homage to the architectural element that gives its name to Torremolinos. Each of the works is a vision, an interpretation, an idealization and a memory of the tower and its neighborhood, Bajondillo.

The Torre de Pimentel or Torre de los Molinos is the one that gives its name to the municipality since it was the one that defended the mills from possible incursions on the coast. These mills worked thanks to the waters coming from the Springs and which would later be channeled to supply the orchards in the area. This watchtower has a square floor plan and is 12 meters high. Built in the Nasrid period, it was part of the group of towers that defended the coast of Malaga.

The exhibition can be visited at the House of Culture from September 23 to November 8, Monday to Thursday from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm and from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm, and on Fridays in the mornings. It will be closed on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

Tuesday, September 24: Callos and Paella tasting

On September 24th and as a prelude to the fair, the Business and Commerce Association of Torremolinos (ACET) will offer a tasting of two traditional foods: Callos and Paella, from 1:00 pm in the Plaza de Andalucía.

Callos are the internal organs, such as the stomach or the guts, of an animal – usually young cows (ternera), pork or lamb. (Well, like sausages, maybe it would be better if we didn’t know what goes in there, right?) The Callos are prepared and served as a rich soup – see a recipe and a picture here!

When we thought the party was over… there is one extra day, just for the kids!! It will be the Kid’s Day, with reduced prices in the funfair attractions. We can go there after school hours. 😉

Conclusion

The program is beautiful and complete and the number of events being offered is excellent. I love it when there are events spread around the town, so there is something close to everybody. I’m sure we will have a fantastic Feria de San Miguel in 2024! I only wish we knew about it all earlier. Who knows, maybe next year?
